PLANT A TREE IN HONOR OR MEMORY OF SOMEONE.

The Wolf River Conservancy is leading our 7th Annual Tree Planting this year with an important community partner, Shelby Farms Park. The WRC and, we hope, over 100 volunteers will gather to plant about 2,000 trees – thereby assisting Shelby Farms Park in achieving its ultimate goal of planting one million trees within the Park and the surrounding neighborhoods.

We plan to meet at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the northwest section of Shelby Farms Park, near Farm Rd, where the park has a tree nursery (click here for a map and complete directions). We plan to organize into teams and plant about 2,000 small, slender trees, 3 to 4 feet tall with no root balls, into pots containing potting soil. Once these trees grow larger, they will be moved to their permanent locations within the park.

We have also ordered 150 larger trees, 5 to 6 feet tall with root balls, that will be planted in nearby fields. These trees will require 5 teams of two to three people, each team with a shovel. Each team will plant approximately 30 trees.

Our event may last until 2:00 p.m., so please bring a picnic lunch, drinks, gloves, shovels, etc. We look forward to working together again with our volunteers to make a lasting difference in “greening” our community!

Rain Date Info: If the weather appears threatening Saturday morning, please check our website after 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, to see if we have postponed the planting until our 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 18, rain date.
