A vital part of the Wolf River Conservancy’s mission is to educate members of the community about the Wolf River and its value as a natural, educational and recreational resource. We are committed to providing quality educational programming to people of all ages, and especially to young people, the future stewards of the Wolf River as well as our local and global environment.
We offer flexible programming to accommodate as much as possible the needs of any group in our community - from pre-schools and kindergartens to high schools to garden clubs and churches - offering indoor slideshows and outdoor field trips and service projects. If you do not see exactly what you have in mind below, please contact our Education Director to discuss it.
K-12 Classroom Presentations
We want to help you and your students get connected to the Wolf River, a tremendous natural resource flowing through our own community. A WRC educator can come to your classroom or auditorium to talk about the Wolf River. Presentations usually consist of a Powerpoint slideshow from 30 to 45 min long. Wildlife artifacts and other visual aids may be included depending on venue, time liimit, and group size. Our most popular programs are Introducing the Wolf River! and Wolf River Wildlife. Programs can be tailored to grade level.
Field Trips
Field trips are arranged individually with teachers, cost dependent on various factors. Large groups can usually be accommodated with enough planning time. The most common destinations are Germantown Greenway and Johnson Park in Collierville. The WRC educator can help you choose the most appropriate location and activities for your group.
Teacher In-Service Programs
We offer Wolf River Powerpoint presentations, and educator workshops including WOW!, The Wonders of Wetlands. WOW! workshops may require a small fee from participants. Teachers receive both a WOW Curriculum Guide and a copy of An Educator’s Guide to the Wolf River.
An Educator’s Guide to the Wolf River
Our educator’s guide includes background information on the Wolf River, selected topics and activities for the classroom, and field trip information, including maps. The guide is offered as a packet. Pages are hole-punched and a binder is not included. Guides are available for $10.00. Please contact education@wolfriver.org for more information.
