The Wolf River floodplain, carving a green passage through 90 miles of forests, fields, and communities in northern Mississippi and west Tennessee, is the Mid-South's greatest natural resource.  The upper reaches are lush wetlands of unmatched natural beauty and its lower stretches contain refuges of undisturbed forest in the heart of Memphis.  Few large cities can boast of such a scenic and relatively unspoiled river in their midst.  The creation and protection of a continuous Greenway from the Wolf's subtly majestic beginnings in the Holly Springs National Forest to the Mississippi River is a primary goal of the Wolf River Conservancy.

Wolf River Greenway

After many years of promotion and much planning, the Conservancy was richly rewarded in 2009 as the Memphis portion of the Wolf River Greenway became a reality!  In November 2009, the Memphis City Council awarded a bid for construction of the first section of the greenway trail to be located along Humphreys Blvd. between Walnut Grove and Shady Grove roads.  A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on February 10th, 2010.

Over the past couple of years, the Conservancy has worked closely with the City of Memphis Division of Park Services and the Hyde Family Foundations in the Memphis Greenway Partnership, collaborating to help plan and implement a greenway and conservation corridor along the Wolf River.  The Conservancy continued our work with The Greenway Team, a consulting firm specializing in greenway and trail projects, to assist the Greenway Partnership in carrying our the Memphis Wolf River Greenway and trail system project.  Built in phases, the Memphis Wolf River Greenway will become a high quality public realm amenity for the City of Memphis and the Mid-South community.  Follow the links below for maps, photos, and articles.
