Title: First Saturday Float Trip
When: 07.08.2010
Description: On the first Saturday canoe trip in August, we will paddle from LaGrange, Tennessee to Bateman Road, a nine mile trip through the Ghost River Section!  This beautiful, wild section of the Wolf was saved in 1995 and designated a State Natural Area—and it’s truly a hidden treasure. All WRC members - new and old - are welcome.  Non-member participants will be asked to join WRC. These trips are free, offered as a WRC membership benefit. Bluff City Canoe Club members are welcome and may be requested to help.  To register and/or to become a member, contact WRC Office Manager, Kimberly
Thomas at officemanager@wolfriver.org or 901-452-6500.  All paddlers should be registered by 5:00pm, Thursday, August 5th.
For a summary of what to expect on the LaGrange to Bateman trip, go to Canoeing Information at www. wolfriver.org or use the following link.

Trip Leader: Volunteer and WRC Board Member Dale Sanders, our intrepid “River Rat,” is leading canoe trips on the upper Wolf River on the first Saturday of each month of the year. Dale is a highly skilled paddler intimately familiar with the Wolf River who enjoys sharing the beauty of the area with others.

For Paddlers Bringing Their Own Boats: You will meet Dale at 0900 at the Wolf River access, LaGrange, Tennessee. To get there, drive east out of Moscow TN about 10 miles to the blinking stop light in LaGrange.  At the light, turn right off Hwy 57 and drive down the hill about one mile to the parking lot on the right before crossing the bridge. Depending on the number of
paddlers registered, vehicle shuttle will be arranged either before we paddle or after. Get there early if you would like to shuttle your vehicle to the Bateman Road take-out prior to paddling.

For Those Renting Boats: You will meet your outfitter at 0830, at the take-out, the Bateman Road access parking lot.  Mapquest.com with this address:  1580 Bateman Rd., Moscow, TN, 38057.  From Hwy. 57, head south on Bateman Road and you will see the bridge just beyond this address. The river access parking lot is to the left just before the bridge.  To rent a boat, contact Wolf River Canoe Trips at 901-877-3958 or 901-828-0432. Your outfitter will shuttle paddlers from Bateman Road to the launch site at LaGrange. The WRC website,  www..wolfriver.org, also contains information on renting boats for Wolf River trips.

You can find a canoe trip waiver form on our website. Please download, print and sign a form for each participant and bring the signed releases with you to give to your trip leader. Paddlers 18 and older must sign a waiver. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who has legal responsibility. The responsible adult boater(s) must ensure their on board minors are capable and strong enough for the duration of the trip. All paddlers must wear an approved Personal Flotation Device. Each boat should have at least one person with some paddling experience. For the less qualified paddlers, there will be limited basic seamanship instructions prior to departure. Keep in mind there will be two miles to paddle in Spirit Lake after exiting the Ghost section. On a hot day, this could be a challenging trip. Although the Wolf is rated as a class one river, conditions can rapidly change. Always, safety is paramount.

Weather will most likely be quite warm, so plenty of drinking water is a must, and it’s always a good idea to bring along a change of clothes in a dry bag. It is essential for paddlers to wear clothes and shoes suitable for conditions. For example, neoprene booties are great summer and winter wear. A hat is also recommended. Other items to consider in your trip preparation process are: sunscreen, insect repellent, emergency supplies/allergy medications, rain gear, camera, cell phone, and binoculars. Bring your own lunch or snacks. A waterproof bag is highly recommended.

Again, you can find a canoe trip waiver form on our website. Please download, print and sign a form for each participant and bring the signed releases with you to give to your trip leader. If you cannot open the document, please email trip leader Dale Sanders at fdales@aol.com and he will copy and paste the form onto an e-mail.
