As a lifelong Memphian, Keith has always had a passion for the beauty and adventure found in the outdoors. After graduating from the University of Memphis with a teaching degree in secondary education, Keith worked for Outdoors Inc as a manager and as a high school geography and history teacher. Keith discovered the Wolf River in 1986 and became a volunteer with the Wolf River Conservancy and then a board member.
After getting lost on a cold, December night in 1991 while attempting to paddle the Wolf from LaGrange through what is now known as the Ghost Section, Keith helped to co-found and mark the canoe trail through this part of the river the following summer. He then assisted as a WRC board member in its rescue from loggers and developers in 1995.
Keith started work at the WRC in 2003 and helped lead the “Greening Greater Memphis” effort in 2007 with Shelby Farms Park Conservancy and the Greater Memphis Greenline that finally got the community excited about building the Wolf River Greenway.
Keith is married to his wife Margaret, who was a Conservancy guide after the Ghost River Section was discovered, and they have a daughter named Hannah.
