Our Work

Mission Statement: The Wolf River Conservancy is dedicated to conserving and enhancing the Wolf River and its environs as a natural resource for public education and low impact recreation.

Goals: WRC's long term goal is to protect the wetland forests within the 100-year floodplain of the Wolf River.  We want to enhance these forests with canoe trails, hiking trails and boardwalks as a recreational and wildlife corridor for our community's enjoyment.  We work towards these goals by:

  • Educating Mid-Southerners of all ages about the river’s biodiversity
  • Addressing policy issues that impact the river
  • Identifying critical areas for acquisition by public agencies
Land Conservation: The WRC has adopted the 2004 Land Trust Standards and Procedures as we bring land acquisitions into public ownership for the benefit of our community.  These standards and practices are designed primarily for nonprofit, tax-exempt land trusts, but also provide important guidelines for any organization or government agency that holds land or easements for the benefit of the public.  Implementation helps land trusts to build strong and effective land conservation programs and to gain the trust of the public.  Nonprofit land trusts across the nation have conserved millions of acres of wildlife habitat, farms, ranches, forests, watersheds, recreation areas and other important lands (www.lta.org).

For Landowners: If you are a landowner and are interested in protecting your land for future generations, we will be happy to send you a booklet published by the Land Trust Alliance, entitled, Conservation Options: A Landowner's Guide.  You may request a copy by providing your mailing address by clicking on this email link.
