Join us for the 19th Annual Tree Planting on March 2!

Every year, the Wolf River Conservancy plants trees with community volunteers during our Annual Tree Planting event.  Some years we pot 1-year old baby trees, while other years we plant older trees in the ground.  This year for the 19th Annual Tree Planting event, over 1,000 trees which were potted up in 2023 will be planted in the ground along Leath Bayou in New Chicago Park.  The Community Redevelopment Agency is a key partner this year, providing great community connections in this future Wolf River Greenway community.  Another partner, the Works, Inc., has been stewarding the young trees over the past year through extreme heat and bitter cold underneath Union Ave. through their Memphis Native Tree Works initiative.  Continuing their leadership on the day of the tree planting, the West Tennessee chapter of the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council will be providing oversight and guidance to ensure all trees are planted properly.

The trees planted this year will enhance part of the floodplain along Leath Bayou, a tributary of the Wolf River, reestablishing a forested riparian corridor in order to provide better habitat and absorption of floodwaters.  We hope to see many volunteers (including you!) on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, for our 19th Annual Tree Planting!

If you are unable to attend, or if there is someone special you would like to honor, or if you would simply like to honor your commitment to ongoing tree planting efforts, you can sponsor a tree to promote a greener Mid South.
