About the Greenway
The Wolf River Greenway is a corridor of protected green space along the Wolf River that includes a paved pathway for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Built in phases, this 12-foot-wide pathway, the Wolf River Greenway trail, will eventually extend a total of 26 miles to connect over 22 neighborhoods all the way from the north end of Mud Island in downtown Memphis, through the neighborhoods of north central Memphis, to Shelby Farms Park and then to the cities of Germantown and Collierville. The project is a public/private partnership between the Wolf River Conservancy, Memphis Parks, and Shelby County. As of 2022, there are 14 miles open to the public of the total 26-mile planned route.

The Mud Island Section of the Wolf River Greenway opened to the public in October of 2017. This scenic portion of the Greenway features a 1.2 mile loop along the old Wolf River Levee built to divert the flow of the Wolf River in 1960. When you stand atop this levee, you are literally standing on top of history! The remaining trail hugs the banks of the historic diverted Wolf River. There are benches and waste receptacles along the trail. The Mud Island section of the Greenway is the gateway to the remaining 25 miles of Greenway being constructed through the City of Memphis. The Mud Island Section also connects with the River Line, Tom Lee Park and Big River Crossing, making it a crucial midpoint in hundreds of miles of waterfront trails in Tennessee and Arkansas.

Built atop a levee, the Hollywood section and McLean Cycle track compose 3.3 miles of the Wolf River Greenway trail through the Hyde Park neighborhood of Memphis, TN. This residential-adjacent trail is a crucial connector to Rodney Baber Park to the north, and to the remaining miles of the Wolf River Greenway trail to the east and west. The Hollywood section features a trailhead parking area along N Hollywood Street and connects to the McLean Cycle Track to the west.

The Epping Way section of the Wolf River Greenway Trail system can be found on 138 acres of scenic riverfront property, owned by the Wolf River Conservancy. This section of the Greenway features a 20 acre lake, 1.2 miles of pedestrian trails with two picturesque bridges. Photo opportunities abound as the trail winds alongside the lake, and bluebird houses provide homes for beautiful bluebirds fluttering past as you walk on the trail. In August of 2019, we installed a 60 foot floating boat dock on the lake. The dock connects to the Wolf River Greenway and will become the epicenter of paddling activities once the Greenway is completed.

The Kennedy Park section of the Wolf River Greenway opened in 2018 and features 1.5 miles of scenic recreational trails running through a mature forest, bounding along the rolling hills and banks of the Wolf River. This section also includes six scenic bridges good for photo opportunities. The section has three access points, with two inside John F. Kennedy Park. There is an unpaved nature trail and boardwalk adjacent to the Greenway trail and Wolf River, with a separate parking area within JFK Park. There is additional vehicle and RV parking within the park at the other two access points.

The Wolf Crossing section, mile fourteen of the Wolf River Greenway Trail, boasts a 270-foot cable stayed suspension bridge over the Wolf River, and a raised concrete boardwalk through the scenic Lucius Burch State Natural Area. This much anticipated section opened in November of 2021, connecting the Shelby Farms Greenline and the Wolf River Greenway Trail further east.

The East Section of the Wolf River Greenway comprises of 3.6 miles of paved trail that is currently open to the public. This section offers an intimate natural experience winding near the flowing Wolf River. The East Section connects to the Germantown Greenway at the border near Kirby Parkway, and runs westward past Walnut Grove Road, terminating at a grassy field of high-tension power lines. The Wolf Crossing segment begins at these power lines.
