Hike Above The Ghost

Hike Above The Ghost
Hike Above The Ghost

Join us on a hiking adventure to a part of the Ghost River State Natural Area that most never see, on Saturday, September 20th!

The Ghost River section of the Wolf River is known for its extensive wetlands, bottomland hardwood forest, and the cypress-tupelo forests you paddle through. Just upstream of the boat put-in, a tract of land was added to the State Natural Area in 2022 by Wolf River Conservancy. This wildly diverse property includes the bottomlands that we know and love, but also one of the rarest plant communities in the state of Tennessee.

Follow and learn on our hike guide (Ryan Pudwell) up large sand hills to a savannah-like setting with prickly pear cactus and farkleberry. Short sand post oaks stand short and resilient in this harsh, dry landscape. Discover animal and plant research occurring on the property. Finally, gaze out across the Ghost River floodplain from a viewpoint on the property. This is hike is approximately 2 miles and consist of some elevation change, thorns, and high growth (it is a natural area). Please wear boots, high socks, long pants, and bring bug spray.

Hikers will meet at the trailhead at 10 am.

Please RSVP with the link below.

We hope to see you there!
