Get Ready for National Parks and Rec Month: Embrace Nature and Stay Active in July!

Are you ready to embark on an incredible outdoor adventure this July?  Get ready to celebrate Parks and Rec Month in style! With an array of exciting activities lined up, there's no better time to step outside, soak up the sun, and make unforgettable memories with family and friends. From invigorating nature walks to leisurely family paddles and a charming stream stroll, this is your chance to embrace the great outdoors and experience the wonders of the Wolf River and Wolf River Greenway trail!

Since 1985, July has been celebrated as National Parks and Recreation Month. Created by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Park and Recreation Month specifically highlights the essential and powerful role local park and recreation professionals — such as our staff at Wolf River Conservancy — play in building stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient communities all across the country.

1. First Saturday Paddle - July 1st - Experience the thrill of a scenic river paddle along the majestic Wolf River.  Challenge yourself with a 6.4-mile journey filled with breathtaking views and meandering curves.

2. Wolf River Family Fun Paddles - July 2nd and 23rd - Gather your family and embark on a leisurely paddle along a short section of the Wolf River.  Bring your own boats or rent them and enjoy quality time together amidst picturesque surroundings.

3. Greenway Trail Nature Walks - July 8th and 15th - Immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature as you explore the scenic Wolf Crossing section of the Wolf River Greenway trail.  Traverse a suspension bridge and stroll along a raised boardwalk, surrounded by lush greenery and captivating wildlife.

4. Wolf River Stream Stroll - July 15th – Join us for wading in the beautiful Wolf River as we net up small aquatic creatures and take a break from the heat.  A family-friendly event, this is a great way to introduce young children to the river.  Discover wildlife and learn about the importance of preserving our natural habitats.

The awe and wonder of the Wolf River and Wolf River Greenway Trail are ready for anyone to enjoy!  But don't just take our word for it, below is a heartwarming story from one of our Greenway Ambassadors from out on the trail:

"We were walking near the Shady Grove parking area at dusk and came across a family of three with a two-year-old daughter.  I asked the parents if it would be ok for me to give her a Wolf River Greenway sticker and they replied in the affirmative.  We started talking as the little girl was running about in joy with her new sticker, and the family shared that this was the first time in their lives that they had seen fireflies and that they loved the trail.  It was rewarding for us to see the joy and wonder in all of their eyes and knowing that it was the Greenway that made that possible for them!"

Mark your calendars and prepare for a month of outdoor fun during Parks and Rec Month.  Whether you're seeking thrills, relaxation, or educational experiences, the Wolf River and Wolf River Greenway Trail are ready to be explored.  Don't miss this opportunity to embrace nature, stay active, and create unforgettable memories.
