November 2024: A Message from Our Director

“This place is phenomenal, especially for the children…” Wolf River Conservancy Member

Can you remember why you first became involved with the Wolf River Conservancy? I’ve heard many stories of guided paddle trips down the beautiful ghost section of the Wolf River on a crisp November day. Maybe you find yourself running or cycling on the Wolf River Greenway most mornings under a canopy of native trees. This year, more than 6,000 students of all ages fell in love with the outdoors through environmental education and outreach programming provided by the Conservancy. This contributes to over 33,000 students who have participated in our programming over the last ten years.

Connecting people to the green spaces around them and building awareness of the value of conservation is core to our mission. While it may start with a paddle, a stroll or a lesson about wetlands, the impact of the Wolf River Conservancy is generational. And the future security of our community's beloved green spaces is only made possible by you.

Please consider that in 2024, the Wolf River Conservancy:

• Surpassed 20,000 acres protected within the Wolf River watershed.

• Collaborated with more than 100 schools and community partners to educate students about the value of environmental conservation.

• Planted over 2,500 native trees throughout Shelby County.

• Cleared over 7,700 pounds of trash from the Wolf River floodplain.

• Initiated design and construction for an additional 6.35 miles of the Wolf River Greenway.

Would you please consider a year-end gift to continue our work to protect and preserve the Wolf River for now and future generations? Please visit our website at wolfriver.org/give for more information. Your connection to the lands we protect keeps our mission alive.

We are grateful for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Erik Houston
