Why Conservation Starts with Connection

Dear Wolf River Conservancy Friend,
We can't protect what we don't understand. And we can't conserve what we don't value.
At the Wolf River Conservancy, we believe these simple truths are at the heart of meaningful, lasting conservation. Protecting land, restoring habitats, and preserving natural resources are essential to our mission. But equally important is helping people understand why these places matter and inspiring them to take an active role in protecting them.
For some, that connection begins with a walk along the Wolf River Greenway. For others, it's paddling the Ghost River, participating in a community tree planting, or learning about the important relationship between the Wolf River watershed and the drinking water we depend on every day.
These experiences do more than introduce people to the natural world. They foster a sense of ownership, responsibility, and pride in the places we call home.
Because people are far more likely to protect the places they know, value, and feel connected to.
This belief guides everything we do at the Conservancy. Through environmental education, volunteer restoration projects, recreational programming, and the continued expansion of the Wolf River Greenway, we are working to make conservation more accessible and relevant to people across the Mid-South.
But our work is far from finished.
Environmental challenges, from habitat loss and water quality to the need for equitable access to green spaces, require an informed and engaged community. No single organization can address these challenges alone. Real, lasting progress depends on neighbors, volunteers, businesses, and community leaders recognizing that the health of our environment is directly connected to the health and future of our region.
That's why building community awareness isn't simply an extension of our conservation mission. It's essential to achieving it.
On Saturday, November 7, 2026, we invite you to join us for the annual Greenway Soirée, an evening celebrating the progress we've made together and the exciting opportunities ahead.
Held from 6–10 p.m. at the FedEx Event Center at Shelby Farms Park, this special evening will bring together conservation supporters and community leaders for dinner, dancing, auctions, and an immersive experience highlighting our mission.
By attending, you're doing more than supporting a fundraising event. You're helping create opportunities for people across our community to experience nature, build meaningful connections, and become the next generation of conservation advocates.
Awareness creates connection. Connection inspires action. And action drives conservation.
We hope you'll join us on November 7 as we celebrate the people, places, and partnerships making conservation possible.
Together, we can protect the places we love and inspire future generations to do the same.
