Volunteer Spotlight: Eagle Scout Matthew Price Makes an Impact

We wish to congratulate Matthew Price for completing his Eagle Scout project with Wolf River Conservancy and thereby obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 341.  Across two hot days in August and September, Matthew, along with the recruited help of family and fellow Troop 341 Scouts, cleared over 1,000 feet of new unpaved trail and constructed an impressive 16-foot wooden bridge at our Epping Way property. This unpaved trail is a key segment in what is Wolf River Conservancy’s vision for an unpaved trail that extends off the Greenway and loops around the backside of the 20-acre lake, but it is the completion of the bridge over a creek that drains overflow from the lake into the river that removes the biggest obstacle to realizing this vision. At 16-ft long and 6-ft wide, this bridge is strong enough not only to provide a sturdy crossing for visitors, but to accommodate mowers and other heavy equipment necessary to maintain trails and host habitat restoration projects. We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Matthew, his family, and Troop 341 for pushing us much closer to our vision for a great new adventure opportunity for hikers, bikers, and birders.

We welcome any Scout ready to embark on their Eagle Project and any Scout troop willing to put in some sweat equity along the Wolf River, all to allow others to experience the Wonder of the Wolf!
