Connecting More People to the River

This month we would like to welcome our new River Manager Mike Womack and our new Assistant River Manager Harry Babb. The Wolf River Conservancy Guide Program is a tremendous asset to the conservancy in that it fosters community engagement directly with the Wolf River. Our guided paddles provide an avenue for community members in the Wolf River watershed to paddle both wilderness and urban sections, experiencing first hand the amazing resource that the Wolf River Conservancy strives to protect.
Mike Womack
Graphic Designer | Paddle Enthusiast | Wolf River Guide
Mike Womack brings more than 40 years of paddling experience and a lifelong passion for the outdoors to his new role with the Wolf River Conservancy. A Louisiana Tech University graduate and professional graphic designer by trade, Mike has spent his career building brands inspired by the outdoors while pursuing adventures on rivers and waterways across the country.
From years spent canoe marathon racing, paddling class V whitewater, and long-distance kayak racing, Mike has immersed himself into a wide range of paddling disciplines. And some of his many adventures have found him eye-to-eye with humpback whales in Alaska, paddling the Colorado through the Grand Canyon, and exploring the Everglades in search of American crocodiles. But some of his favorite adventures happen right here on the Wolf River, where he enjoys seeing others discover an amazing wilderness right in their own back yards.
Mike’s goal is to help others develop paddling skills and deepen their appreciation for the swamp and the Wolf River.
Harry Babb | “Habitat Harry”
Naturalist | Native Habitat Specialist | Wolf River Guide
Harry grew up canoeing and kayaking the Ghost River section - a beautiful, hidden gem of the Wolf River that has always held a special place in his life. From 2002 to 2023, he helped his family operate Ghost River Rentals, a canoe and kayak outfitter that introduced countless people to one of the Mid-South’s hidden natural treasures.
After involvement with the Wolf River Conservancy for many years, Harry has developed a deep appreciation for the river, its natural history, and the incredible biodiversity found throughout its watershed. His professional work as a naturalist, restoring native habitats and creating native plant gardens, brings a unique perspective to his role as a river guide. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and helping others discover the plants, wildlife, and natural communities that make the Wolf River so special.
Harry lives in DeSoto County, Mississippi, with his wife, Lauren, and their ten-year-old twins. Whether he’s working to restore native habitat or paddling down the river, his passion remains the same: connecting people with the natural world and encouraging a greater appreciation for the places that make the Mid-South unique.
Welcome Mike Womack and Harry Babb, experienced paddlers dedicated to connecting people with the Wolf River.
