Honoring the Wolf River’s Past, Securing Its Future

Dear Wolf River Conservancy Friend,

Earlier this fall, I stood on the banks of the Wolf River, watching a great blue heron lift off from the water. The sunlight filtered through the cypress trees and, for a moment, everything was perfectly still. It reminded me why the Wolf River Conservancy exists. Not long ago, this exact spot was threatened by development. Today, it stands as a sanctuary for wildlife, for clean water, and for all of us who call the Mid-South home.

The generosity of our community has had a lasting impact, helping us protect vital wetlands, build bridges and trail connections along the Wolf River Greenway, and create safe, beautiful spaces for our community to connect with nature. Because of your support, families have access to trails that bring neighborhoods together, and wildlife thrives where development once threatened the river’s edge.

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Wolf River Conservancy, I am filled with gratitude for the visionaries who founded this organization in 1985, for the dedicated volunteers who have carried its mission forward, and for supporters like you who make this work possible.  Together, we have protected more than 21,000 acres of land within the Wolf River Watershed, safeguarding the Memphis Sand Aquifer, our community’s most precious natural resource.

In a time of rapid growth and environmental challenges across the region, our work has never been more critical. The Wolf River Conservancy stands at the intersection of conservation, education, and community, ensuring that the green spaces we love remain protected for generations to come.

As we close this milestone year, I would like to invite you to make a special year-end gift at www.wolfriver.org/give that reflects your continued commitment to conservation. Please consider that your support helps us protect even more of the Wolf River Watershed and complete the trail that connects our communities. Your contribution will help ensure that forty years from now, someone else will stand on that same riverbank, watching a heron take flight, and feel the same gratitude that your support has made possible.

With heartfelt thanks,

Erik Houston, Executive Director
