Thank you, Hieu!

The Wolf River Conservancy would like to thank Hieu Nguyen for his service as our spring Land Stewardship Intern. Over the past few months, Hieu has helped the Conservancy host volunteer events, maintain trees along the Wolf River Greenway, conduct property inspections, and improve our field processes. Hieu’s enthusiasm for tough field work and infectious, whether he was leading volunteers in invasive species removal, wading through swamps between thornbushes, or mulching trees to smooth jazz.
Reflecting on his experiences with the Conservancy, Hieu said “My time working with Wolf River Conservancy was filled with awe and discovery! This internship introduced me to hidden natural spaces in Memphis that I otherwise may never have discovered. Beyond that, I gained hands-on field experience and practical skills that extend far beyond what can be learned in a traditional classroom. Most importantly, my time with Wolf River Conservancy allowed me not only to learn the ways of nature, but also to contribute to the health of the Wolf River watershed!”
Hieu just completed his junior year at Rhodes College where he double majors in Chemistry and Environmental Science. This summer, he is looking forward to an internship with North Dakota State University’s Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials where he will work in a laboratory to synthesize naturally derived coatings that can be applied in various industrial settings in an effort to develop more environmentally friendly consumer products. We wish Hieu the best in his next adventure as he journeys through the American prairie on his iconic motorcycle.
