Discover the Greenway Fall Series

The Discover the Greenway Fall Series brings the community together through outdoor recreation, conservation, and education along the Wolf River Greenway. Each event helps residents connect with the Greenway’s natural beauty, learn about conservation work, and enjoy time outside with family, friends, and neighbors.

Update on the Greenway

August 19  

Join the Wolf River Conservancy at the Crosstown Concourse Glassroom for an update on the development of the Wolf River Greenway. Executive Director Erik Houston and Greenway Coordinator Findley Frazier will share the latest progress toward completing the 26‑mile multi‑use trail.

The Greenway connects over 22 neighborhoods from Mud Island to Shelby Farms Park and onward to Germantown and Collierville. Fourteen miles are currently open to the public.

Drink a Beer, Save a River with Dr. Anne Sabol

August 28  

In partnership with Flyway Brewing, join Dr. Anne Sabol for a discussion on the Memphis Zoo’s Urban Wildlife Research Initiative. More than 30 cameras have been deployed across Memphis to study how wildlife uses urban green spaces.

Every beer purchased from 5:30 p.m. until close contributes 25% of the purchase price to the Conservancy’s efforts to protect Memphis’s water source.

Movie Night

September 11  

Join us for Memphis Parks Movie Night with the Wolf River Conservancy. Enjoy an evening on the Wolf River Greenway and a screening of Hoppers, a family‑friendly Pixar film following Mabel, an animal lover who uses new technology to “hop” her consciousness into a robotic beaver and uncover mysteries in the animal world.

Mempops treats begin at 5:30 p.m.
Movie screening begins at 6:00 p.m.

Adventure Day on the Greenway

September 26  

Adventure Day offers outdoor recreation and hands‑on stewardship at the Epping Way trailhead. Enjoy paddling instruction on Epping Lake, guided hikes to the Epping Way Beach, face painting, food trucks, and more.

Stewardship activities include litter removal, trail restoration, and caring for the Wolf River watershed. Community donations help sustain free, accessible programming.

Live Music on the Wolf River Greenway

October 2

Experience live music from the JD Westmoreland Band as part of the Discover the Greenway Fall Series. The band blends Memphis soul, Delta blues, and jam‑band influences.

Held at the Mud Island Trailhead at the confluence of the Wolf and Mississippi Rivers.Food and drinks from Good Groceries and Flyway Brewing begin at 5:30 p.m.Music begins at 6:00 p.m.

Creepy Conservation: Talking About Tarantulas with Dr. Steve Reichling

October 14

Just in time for Halloween, Dr. Steve Reichling of the Memphis Zoo will lead a talk on tarantulas and their misunderstood role in nature. Reichling has spent 44 years at the Memphis Zoo and leads conservation efforts for reptiles, amphibians, and the critically endangered dusky gopher frog.

The talk begins at 6:00 p.m.Held alongside the Memphis Botanic Garden’s Food Truck Garden Party from 5–8 p.m.

Fall Fest

October 24

Celebrate fall at the Shady Grove Trailhead, 6324 Humphreys Boulevard. Enjoy an arboretum scavenger hunt, meet fascinating critters, join the costume parade, visit food trucks, and explore family‑friendly activities throughout the day.
