Saving Our Wetlands Starts With You: A Message from the Executive Director Copy

Dear Wolf River Conservancy Friend,

As the vibrant colors of spring emerge along the Wolf River, we are reminded of the stunning natural beauty and the vital ecosystems that sustain us. Wetlands, often-overlooked but incredibly important landscapes—are home to diverse wildlife, purify our aquifer, prevent floods, and help maintain a healthy Memphis and Mid-South. Nonetheless, our region's wetlands are under growing threat. The pressures of development and recent legislative shifts put these critical areas at risk. Across the country, wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate. The combination of urban sprawl, agricultural expansion, and changes in federal policies has led to the degradation of these crucial ecosystems.

Here in Tennessee, recent legislative measures seek to weaken protections for wetlands, opening the door for further impacts right here at home. This not only threatens biodiversity but also exacerbates flooding and water quality issues. The health of the Wolf River, the Memphis Sand Aquifer, and our community is at stake.

This is where you come in.

While the threats to ecologically valuable lands are growing, so too is the impact of the Wolf River Conservancy. Your generous support helps us stand up against these threats. With your donation, we can:

  • Protect critical wetland habitats through land acquisition and preservation efforts. We have protected over 20,000 acres of ecologically valuable land to date.
  • Advocate for stronger protections for wetlands at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Restore damaged wetland areas and improve the health of the Wolf River watershed.
  • Engage and educate the public on the importance of wetlands, fostering a community of stewards working to ensure that our natural resources are preserved for future generations.

For the past 40 years, the Wolf River Conservancy has been the leader in conservation and environmental protection in the Mid-South and together, we can ensure that wetlands continue to thrive. Your support is an investment in a healthier, more sustainable future—one where our wetlands and our aquifer remain protected and are preserved for generations to come.

Without you, wetlands don’t stand a chance. Consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Wolf River Conservancy today.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the preservation of our environment.

Sincerely,

Erik Houston  Executive Director

Wetlands are under threat from development, pollution, and reduced protections due to federal and state policy rollbacks, impacting these crucial ecosystems.
