On the Greenway: 911 Signs & Safety
Several recent injuries and close calls among Conservancy staff and volunteers have reminded us that outdoor safety is paramount and deserving of forethought and planning before any excursion, including to the Wolf River Greenway. Fortunately, should an emergency arise, 911 signs with mile markers are posted along every section of the Greenway, so first responders can quickly find you if necessary.
We hope you never experience an emergency while enjoying the Greenway, and here are two important safety precautions we would like to stress right now: 1) If possible, don’t go alone, or at least tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return; sometimes another person who can call for help makes all the difference; and 2) Respect the heat. Even the fittest of us can fall prey to heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially in extreme heat and humidity. Please know the warning signs and take them seriously.
Additionally, if you are planning a paddle anywhere along the Greenway or the Wolf River, please take a moment to read the paddling safety information on our website; it’s best to know before you go!
We want everyone in our community to enjoy the Wolf River and the Wolf River Greenway SAFELY! Here’s wishing you all a healthy, happy summer.
