November 2022: A Message from Our Director

Dear Wolf River Conservancy Friend,

What does the Wolf River Conservancy mean to you? For some, it’s the crunching of the leaves on a fall morning on the Wolf River Greenway. For others, it’s the sweeping views of majestic bald cypress trees during an afternoon paddle along the Ghost River. Or it’s the appreciation of our clean drinking water as you fill your first glass of the day. It could mean a sense of community along the trails by the river, or a private refuge in nature, away from the world’s stressors.

Regardless of your own personal connection, it embodies the Wolf River Conservancy’s unwavering commitment to land conservation, which benefits over one million people who live in the Mid-South area. Nearly 19,000 acres in the Wolf River watershed have been protected forever so far – helping to forever safeguard the viability of our drinking water and connecting people with the outdoors through education and recreation.

Because of you and your generous support, the Wolf River Conservancy, as a nationally accredited land trust, remains committed and focused on our mission to protect and preserve the Wolf River and its watershed now and into the future.

Your ongoing generosity allows us to continue the important work to:

• Conserve land: Since 2018, we have enacted our strategic plan with an ambitious goal to protect 25 of the top priority properties by 2025. To date, we have protected 16 of the 25 properties.

• Educate our community: We have educated more than 3,000 youth and adults in this past year on the importance of the Wolf River as a sustainable natural resource.

• Build the Wolf River Greenway: We have opened nearly 14 miles of the Wolf River Greenway, ultimately connecting 22 diverse neighborhoods and 26 miles of paved trail through the city of Memphis.

• Connect our community: We have connected thousands to the Wolf River through outdoor programming, paddles, service projects and community events, including Mental Health Awareness Day along the Wolf River Greenway.

Our work is only possible with dedicated supporters like you. We want to ensure that your connection to the Wolf River remains an important part of your daily life – because your connection to the Wolf River inspires our work.

Would you please consider an additional year-end gift to continue our work to protect and preserve the Wolf River for now and future generations? It is easy to do by visiting our website at wolfriver.org/give or via U.S. Mail at P.O.Box 11031, Memphis, Tennessee 38111.

Thank you for your continued support!

Keith Cole
