On the Greenway: Construction Underway on Section 12A1

The Wolf River Conservancy has broken ground on another phase of the Wolf River Greenway. Thanks to funding in the amount of $2.5M from Mayor Jim Strickland’s Accelerate Memphis program the Wolf River Conservancy has broken ground on the next phase (12A1) of the Wolf River Greenway. Phase 12A1 is approximately 0.75-miles in length and will extend from the eastern edge of Phase 11, located in Kennedy Park, to the end of Elmore Ave. This phase is being constructed by Chris-Hill Construction with primary sub-contractor VuCon. This phase includes 3 bridges as well as a railroad underpass and great views of the Wolf River and some of its major tributaries. The phase is approximately 15% complete and will hopefully be open to the public by summer 2023.

In other news on the Greenway, the Urban Arts Commission has hired Washington State artist, Bruce Myers, to design and install a public art display along the Wolf River Greenway. Bruce relocated to Memphis for the summer and is nearing the completion of his piece titled “Meander”. Bruce’s piece will serve as a seating wall and gathering spot for trail users while also providing an environmental education classroom for local educators. The curvature of the piece mimics the curvature of the Wolf River near the William B. Clark Preserve in Fayette County, TN. The piece is being installed in Kennedy Park at the end of Phase 11 and the beginning of Phase 12A1.
